- membership in the Indexing Society of Canada , and utilization of its journals and frequent ongoing education and specialized training in the field
- B.A. with honors in French (teaching minors in English and history) from the University of California - Berkeley, CA
- coursework at the Sorbonne in Paris, France
- graduate studies in English and education and Secondary Teaching Credential from California State University - Hayward, CA
